A Prayer a Day
12/15/18

Mean-spiritedness (in any form) troubles my soul.
Bruising someone else's dignity, for fun,
always rattles my sensibilities, as I witness it
stripping away at our collective dignity.
I never did appreciate bashing or crashing into someones
vulnerability, for entertainment, but for once or twice
in my childhood, and I can still remember the times
I behaved that way, and I have apologized
to my better angels many times over.
In the moment, it may seem a small thing,
however we are indeed sensitive critters,
easily offended by even the subtlest of mocking,
especially in our youth, where we learn
so many of the rules of relating.
Too many among us (young and old) are treating others unkindly,
(in the name of fun), and I am praying for us,
(an amazingly resourceful species), to become more refined in consciousness, as we interact, and I ask that we consider
behaving more thoughtfully with each other
and cease bating egos with vanities of abuse.
