"Debating With Passion"

A Prayer a Day

Debating an issue can and often
is a healthy exercising of the mind.
But, if and when, in a debate, feelings,
(for whatever reason, get triggered, negatively)
they can lure emotions to spiral out of control,
and drag a conversation into a passionate,
over heated, combative arena, and into the jaws of
an altercation, tearing apart and pulling a debate
seriously off topic and without realizing why,
participants begin attaching each other’s egos,
as all hell breaks loose, and clarity goes out the window.
Unfortunately, when this happens
real personal damage to relationships can result.
We are more easily ego enkindled than we admit.
Carelessness in word can trigger the resurrection
of emotional wounds of the psyche.
We each have our own unique triggers.
It takes a vigilance of consciousness and an
emotional discipline to harmlessly express oneself.
I am reminded this day, that respecting the dynamic sensitivity
and vulnerable underbelly of human emotion is part of life’s curriculum, in realizing the absolute explosive potential of words,
especially when the fuel of fiery opinions are in a room debating.
