A Prayer a Day

06/21/11

I remember reading in the i ching
years ago... that our emotions are not reliable.
We cannot expect our fluctuating
emotional system to keep us steady.

When we operate only through emotional filters,

we often get less accomplished and/or we tend to make messes
due to our ego attachments and personal subjectivity.

Human emotions swing like pendulums.

We mortals are mostly quite moody.

Some of us more than others.
Smells,  sounds,  colors, changes in the environment,
a particular event, what someone else does or doesn’t do,
what someone else does or doesn’t say, narrated by our inner dialogues can flip any of us pretty quickly, from one emotional
state of being... rapidly to another.

Staying steady and responsible requires of us
a disciplined intention to remain true to our promises,
regardless of how we may be feeling in a given moment.

Like the waves of the sea... feelings
come and go, rise and fall.

It is important that we remain always true to ourselves and that we honor our feelings, but it is also equally important
that we respect the commitments made to ourselves and others.

Mature prioritizing through spiritual practices
can balance our relationships with our emotional reality.

Meditation is the best way to calm the
fluxing inner ups and downs of human perceptions
that feed our emotional dynamics.

Pray this day for a healthier integration
of our emotional selves through chosen spiritual disciplines,
and the muscle of objectivity to take lead of our purposeful tasks and commitments whether momentarily
we are in good mood or otherwise.
